SurfAce Cleantech was founded in 2025 following three years of research into a key industry challenge: the cost of compostable packaging. Combining industry expertise with material science, the company develops practical solutions designed around manufacturers and their existing production lines.
Canopa™ is patent pending and currently undergoing industrial trials with IbiPlast in Italy. Industrial compostability certification and commercial launch are planned for early 2027.

Frederic Mauch
Co-founder & CEO
Frederic has spent two decades founding and building sustainable materials companies across Europe and the US. With a deep expertise and network in the compostable packaging industry, he leads strategy, partnerships, and growth.

Saoirse McConnell
Co-founder & CEO
Saoirse is a chemical engineer who has 4 years of industry experience, driving innovation projects and product development in compostable packaging. As CTO, she leads the science behind Canopa, from formulation to scale-up.

Loris Castagnolo
R&D Manager
Loris holds a Master's in Materials Science and has experience designing and validating components for technically demanding projects, with a sharp focus on material selection, process optimization, and quality control. He leads Canopa's R&D.

Thassilo Mauch
Business Development & Finance
Thassilo brings a finance and business-development background spanning growth equity, real estate, and international sales, sharpened through hands-on roles at fast-moving companies. He develops fundraising, partnerships, and commercial strategy.

Emma Gerart
Mechanical Engineer
Emma is a mechanical engineer with a background in structural and materials design, honed leading complex, safety-critical engineering projects from simulation through to manufacturing and validation. She develops the computational models behind Canopa's printing optimization.
Prof. Gilbert Gugler
Industrial Advisor
Expert in coating and roll-coating technologies; Vice-President of the European Coating Symposium.
Dr. Yves Leterrier
Scientific Advisor
Polymer composites, multilayer and hybrid materials, EPFL LPAC.
Created from a powerful combination of industry expertise and leading material science, Canopa™ was designed with the manufacturer in mind from the very first formulation trial. It solves a challenge few coatings attempt at once: holding strength, compostability, and split-second flexographic printing speeds together in a single layer, engineered to perform on existing production lines, not around them.
